Advanced Eye Care Diagnostic Procedures
In some cases, special testing is needed to diagnose or monitor an eye problem. Our advance eye care clinic has the following specialized instruments:
- Corneal maps
- Medmont Visual Field Analyzer
- Anterior segment imaging
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive test that uses light waves (no radiation) to show cross-sectional pictures of the different retinal layers and works a little like an ultrasound for the eye.
It has the ability to detect problems in the eye prior to any symptoms being present in the patient. With an OCT, we are able to see a cross section or 3D image of the retina and detect the early onset of a variety of eye conditions and eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy (the top three diseases known to cause blindness). Detecting sooner results in a more comprehensive eye health care for you.
The results are stored in a computer so that with repeat testing, changes can be detected. Eyedrops are not usually required and the test will not affect your vision.
Treatment of Ocular Disease
Our optometrists, Dr. Moison and Dr. Nurani, are trained and licensed to diagnose and treat diseases of the eye. We prescribe topical medications for infections, inflammations, pain, dry eyes and allergies. We also work with top specialists and surgeons in the area to make referrals and co-manage when indicated.
Common eye diseases we diagnose, manage and treat:
- Macular degeneration
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Retinal detachment
- Vitreous detachment

Emergency Eye Care
We see eye emergencies every day. Symptoms of emergencies include eye pain, redness, discharge, sudden loss of vision, flashes and floaters, embedded foreign particles or other injuries. If you ever have unusual symptoms like these, just call our office and we will see you the same day. We diagnose and treat eye infections, abrasions, chemical burns, foreign bodies, eyelid lumps, corneal ulcers, glaucoma, allergies, inflammatory disease and many other eye problems.
These emergency eye care visits are usually fully funded by the government of BC (MSP). All you require is your BC Carecard.
